By the elevator safety code (ASME A17.1), a dumbwaiter carries materials only and stays within these limits. Bigger loads or carts that need more room call for a material lift.

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers about owning a dumbwaiter.

A dumbwaiter is a small lift that moves goods between floors: meals, linens, documents, supplies. You load it at one landing, send it with a button and unload it at another. It is built for materials only.
Never. A dumbwaiter is not designed or rated for people, and nobody should climb into the car or reach into the shaft. If people need to travel with the load, you need an elevator.
It depends on how many trips it makes and what it carries. A busy restaurant unit needs more frequent visits than a home dumbwaiter. After the first visit we set a schedule for your equipment and explain why.
Yes. Our team maintains and repairs all brands of equipment. Through Brouss Manufacture we can also make spare parts in-house when required.
Often the shaft, rails and car are still good and only the controls, door locks or drive need an upgrade. We inspect it first and tell you what is worth replacing and what can wait.
In many cases, yes. It needs a vertical path through each floor it serves, space for the machine and a power supply. We visit the site, check the space and tell you what is possible.
